“Finding Beauty in Suffering” – Talk by Fr. Cristino

The gravest threat to faith and the leading cause of atheism throughout the history of humanity is what some have termed “the problem of evil.” Why is there suffering in a world created by an all-good, all-knowing, all-powerful God? Why do the innocent suffer at all? These are hard questions to which there are no simple answers. An alternative to asking why as the way to cope with life’s challenges, however, is to ask nothing at all but simply to search for whatever beauty might be contained within these hard experiences.

In this talk delivered to the teenagers at the annual Youth4Truth Summer Conference, Fr. Cristino ventures into the problem of evil by exploring Scripture, the Catholic Tradition, history and human experience. If we look hard enough, perhaps we might discover that life’s most painful moments actually wrap God’s most beautiful gifts…
