The historic meeting of Blessed Pope Paul VI and Anthenagoras I, Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople on January 5th, 1964 in Jerusalem, is an example of Vatican II’s call for greater unity among Christians. On December 7, 1965, both leaders agreed to remove mutual excommunications that were placed against each other’s churches in 1054 AD.
