Moral Theology & Catholic Decision Making – Lesson 8: Euthanasia

In the remaining three weeks of this ten part series, we now turn from the examination of the central guiding principles which inform our decision making as Catholics and begin applying them to concrete circumstances. The format has been changed to allow for a “mock debate” to be held at the beginning of the session with Mr. Phil Hetherington pretending to espouse the non-Catholic, secular position (he is a devout, orthodox Catholic). This will help to demonstrate various “debate tactics” which could be employed with friends, family or colleagues as well as to review the principles which assist the Church to arrive at her conclusions, in this case, about prohibiting euthanasia and physician assisted suicide.
